Since January, I have been taking French classes (Intermediare 1) conversational French given by the Collège Acadie Î.-P.-É., a new, small degree-granting institution created to provide post-secondary education on PEI to Prince Edward Island's francophone community. I've been taking this because I want to understand people better when we go to visit Mathieu's family, and so that I can understand French-language television better.

Recently I got the bright idea of using subversion for version control for this web site. Which is not a bad idea as far as that goes. In researching how to conveniently set up a repository, I stumbled upon the fact that my hosting provider, Webfaction, provides an easy-to-install subversion application. So I went with that.

In the spring of 2008, I bought a little package of Thai hot chili peppers at Sobey's. These were ripe, red peppers. Thai hot chilis are very small peppers, maybe an inch long max. Just for fun, I cut one open and planted the seeds. They grew, and I got quite a lot of chilis back. By request, here's what to do if you want to grow your own:
Transition to Ubuntu on the new laptop

I decided to bite the bullet and install Ubuntu (the latest version, 8.10, Intrepid Ibex) on the laptop and figure out the wireless after. I briefly thought about setting up a dual boot (Vista can resize its own partition and give you space to install Ubuntu), until I saw exactly how much space minimum Vista needed - well over 40 gigs! I only have a 160 gig HD and I'm just not willing to give up such a big chunk of my HD.

I just got a new laptop. It's a fairly cheap model... a HP G50 with AMD Athlon Dual Core QL62 2GHz processor, 3G RAM and a 160 G HD. It's really nice, although I still have two weeks to return it and I might do so. Partly it's the expense, and partly it's because I'm not sure how compatible Ubuntu will be with this system.
Introduction

First of all, I want to say that I'm totally new to blogging, and new to Django. I mean, I rarely even read other people's blogs, even though I often enjoy it when I do, so I suppose I'm a hypocrite for hoping other people might read mine. When I decided that I wanted to build a new web site, and try blogging, one of the basic design decisions I made is that it would be composed of multiple blogs on a variety of topics, so that for example anyone who wanted to read my rants could avoid technical discussions, and vice versa. Hence this Django blog.
