Bring on the Coalition

In the current Canadian election, the Conservatives have been using the word "coalition" as a scare word, and the opposition have been obligingly playing along by ducking for cover and disavowing any intention of forming a coalition. Well, let's take the scare off.
First of all, under our Parliamentary democracy, if the party with the most seats in the House of Commons cannot get the confidence of the House, it is completely legitimate for the opposition parties to be given the opportunity to form a government. This isn't the United States. Secondly, this practice is perfectly democratic. Take the present Parliament... the Conservatives did not get a majority of the votes, and they didn't even get a majority of the seats. Why should the majority of Canadians who didn't vote for them shed a tear if they aren't given the opportunity to exercise power?
If the Conservatives can't get a majority this time, then enough of rule by a conservative minority over an overwhelmingly centrist and liberal majority. Let's have that coalition we're all supposed to be terrified and angry about. It's what we voted for, and it would be a hell of a lot better government than what we have now.
